WHY GANTRY

Gantry systems mount the scanning head on an overhead bridge that travels across a fixed part — ideal when the part is too large, too oddly shaped, or too heavy to move through an immersion tank. SDI's gantry line spans squirter (water-column) delivery for open-shop floors to fully enclosed through-transmission configurations for repeatable production environments.

SDI-5410

Seven-Axis Gantry Through-Transmission System

SDI's flagship gantry platform. Seven axes of motion follow complex part geometry with squirter-column water delivery, eliminating the need to submerge the part. Built for aerospace composite panels and large structural assemblies.

Dual-Bridge Gantry 3D Scanning System

Two independent bridges scan simultaneously across a shared rail system — doubling throughput on high-volume production runs without doubling floor space.

Delta X Gantry Through-Transmission 3D Scanning System

A high-performance 3D curve-scanning UT system for both through-transmission and pulse-echo testing of composites and bonded structures. The Delta X drive bridge follows complex curves in any orientation — built for aircraft control surfaces, wings, doors, and highly contoured fuselage and cabin components.

Optional simultaneous dual-channel through-transmission and pulse-echo delivers four data files from a single scan. All motion control, drive, and instrumentation components are designed and manufactured in-house by SDI.

COMMON QUESTIONS
What's the difference between a gantry and an immersion system?
A gantry system scans a stationary part with an overhead-mounted head, while an immersion system submerges the part in a water tank. Gantry configurations suit parts too large or oddly shaped for a tank.
Can a gantry system handle curved or composite surfaces?
Yes — SDI's multi-axis gantry platforms include 3D high-speed curve following, developed specifically for complex aerospace composite geometries.
Do these systems require NADCAP-approved operation?
For aerospace applications, yes in most cases. SDI can advise on the approval requirements relevant to your Prime Contractor or facility.

Not sure which gantry configuration fits?

SDI's engineers can spec a system to your part geometry.
