Turntable Inspection Systems

Rotational scanning for rings, discs, and circular airframe components — the part turns, the scan head stays fixed.

SEVEN AXES, LOWER COST

Rings, discs, and other radially-symmetric parts scan most efficiently when the part rotates past a fixed scan head rather than the head tracing the part's circumference. SDI's turntable systems are seven-axis static gantry platforms — a lower-cost alternative to full 3D scanning for components with curvature confined to a single plane, such as engine nacelles.

Two sizes cover the range, from mid-scale rings to the largest circular airframe components.

Large Turntable Through-Transmission Ultrasonic System

A seven-axis high-performance static gantry system designed specifically for large circular airframe components such as engine nacelles. The seven-axis design (Y1, Y2, Z1, Z2, B1, B2, T) provides a lower-cost system for components with curvature confined to a single plane. A large turntable is fully integrated into the programmable motion sequence.

The system switches between English and metric units, and can be extended with additional axis motion for non-circular parts. For full 3D scanning needs, SDI's 5380 and 5420 series gantry systems are available.

COMMON QUESTIONS
What kinds of parts suit a turntable system?
Rings, discs, wheels, and other radially-symmetric components — anything where rotating the part past a fixed scan head is more efficient than tracing its geometry with a moving head.
What's the difference between the SDI-5805 and SDI-5810?
The SDI-5810 is the larger-capacity platform, purpose-built for the biggest circular airframe components like engine nacelles, while the SDI-5805 suits a broader range of mid-scale ring and disc parts.
Can these systems handle parts that aren't perfectly circular?
Yes — the turntable platform can be extended with additional X-axis motion for parts that deviate from a fully circular profile.

Inspecting a ring, disc, or nacelle-shaped part?

SDI's engineers can spec a turntable configuration to fit.
